A Greater Understanding
In late April, a group of volunteers from Colorado gave MMC's buildings and grounds some "tender loving care." The team of 12 came to work for two weeks, and among many things, they painted MMC homes, helped clean guest housing, and even did some much needed electrical work. "It's an encouragement for us here when teams come, and it's also a great thing for these people to see what's going on at MMC," said Dan Lippincott, MMC Director, who believes that it is important for supporters to gain a first-hand understanding of the ministry we do. Of course, this sort of help with maintenance also takes a huge load off of the shoulders of people working at MMC. "I learned a lot about prayer and grew more in my faith," said Matthew, who came to volunteer with his wife and two daughters. "We have a new appreciation for the work at the center and know how to pray better for your needs." Back to top
Disappearing ActIt was a strange announcement. "Our Facebook fan page for the Arabic website has disappeared," said our Arabic Ministries Director one morning in April. Disappeared? What did that mean? Just last summer, Muslim extremists had hacked our Arabic ministry web page, warning us to stop sharing Christ in Morocco. Had the Facebook fan page been hacked too? Initially, it seemed like we had lost more than 600 contacts on one of our fastest growing ministries to the Moroccan people. The setback looked even worse, because other important means of communicating with contacts have been curtailed due to the governmental crackdown on foreign and national believers. Even people who couldn't contact us by phone could still connect to us through the Internet. Furthermore, being a fan of Asdika on Facebook is a bold step itself for many Moroccan believers. Quick research showed that other Facebook fan pages were randomly disappearing due to some glitch in the system, so ours wasn't an isolated incident. Soon our trusty web guru had a new fan page created from scratch. Much to our amazement, over 600 fans signed up again in under a week, and now a month later, the page has well over 1000 fans. Despite the hiccup and the increasing pressures from the government in Morocco, we were encouraged to see how people were so dedicated to accessing the fan page and its resources, like links to the daily mediations and programs on our YouTube channel. God is still at work, even when projects have to be built all over again. Back to top
How to Move a Heart
If you could wander into Roland Walter's office here at MMC and ask about Spanish Ministries' newest projects, he'd tell you openly, "The whole purpose is to move the hearts and minds of Spaniards towards Jesus." The hardest question is how to do this. So lately Roland, Mikaela Bruce, and Spanish intern Eliel have been asking Spaniards a lot of question to figure this out. Roland makes the point of talking with a number of Spaniards each week about their views on the purpose of life. Meanwhile, Mikeala and Eliel are filming on-the-street questions with younger generation Spaniards to ask them questions like "What is love?" Roland says, "We want to understand the culture by learning what people think and where their concerns lie." As they continue to ask questions, they are now also filming 1-2 minute testimonies about a believer's relationship with Christ, and how that relationship pertains to the issues addressed in these questions. This project specifically targets people from their early teens to 30 years of age. The Spanish Ministries team asks for prayer as they seek ways to move the hearts and minds of Spaniards towards Christ. Back to top
Providing! In the last issue of Insights, we told you about the renovation of one of our office spaces. We asked you to pray with us for God's provision to cover the costs of furniture and dividers. Meanwhile, we cleaned out the old equipment and gave the walls a fresh coat of paint. Several weeks later, someone contacted us and offered to provide dividers and shelving, not only for the office mentioned in Insights, but also for two other offices spaces that need updating to meet our current staff needs. We were amazed (and so grateful)! The project is still an ongoing process, as we await the arrival of pledged material and continue to pray for God to provide the rest. But even in the midst of unfinished offices, we wanted to let you know how God has begun providing! Back to top
